“mundo, musgo, angelita”

On April 11 and 12th, 2024, Aurelio “Yeyo” Lima Dávila and I formed part of the Latinx Literature NOW! Symposium organized by Daniel Borzutzky at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Other invited speakers included Cecilia Vicuña, Susan Briante, Farid Matuk, and Giancarlo Huapaya. During the symposium, the group explored documentary, performance, and translation present in our work and how it relates to the Americas.

We performed “mundo, musgo, angelita” in honor of the great poet Ángela María Dávila, Yeyo’s mother. The performance included audio recordings of Dávila reading her work, interpretations by the actor and my translations. On April 15, 2024, we also performed “mundo, musgo, angelita” at Pilsen Community Bookstore.
