A partir de x/ex/exis de Roque Raquel Salas Rivera, este libro de artista recorre memorias que no avanzan en línea recta. Entre ventanas, pliegues e imágenes fragmentadas, la obra explora un tiempo que vuelve sobre sí mismo, donde el cuerpo y la memoria se transforman continuamente. Su propósito, al igual que el tiempo hacia nosotros, es desvanezer, ser alterado y de maneras peculiares dejarse reparar.

La exposición no existe un mundo poshuracán: Arte puertorriqueño después del huracán María coincide con el quinto aniversario del huracán María, una tormenta de categoría 4 que azotó Puerto Rico el 20 de septiembre de 2017. Explora cómo los artistas han respondido a los años de transformación desde ese evento, reuniendo más de cincuenta obras de arte realizadas en los últimos cinco años por un grupo intergeneracional de más de quince artistas de Puerto Rico y de la diáspora. “no existe un mundo poshuracán”, es un verso prestado por el poeta puertorriqueño Roque Raquel Salas Rivera. Ésta es la primera exposición académica centrada en el arte puertorriqueño organizada por un gran museo estadounidense en casi medio siglo.

no existe un mundo poshuracán: Puerto Rican Art in the Wake of Hurricane Maria is organized to coincide with the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Maria—a high-end Category 4 storm that hit Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017. The exhibition explores how artists have responded to the transformative years since that event by bringing together more than fifty artworks made over the last five years by an intergenerational group of more than fifteen artists from Puerto Rico and the diaspora. no existe un mundo poshuracán—a verse borrowed from Puerto Rican poet Roque Raquel Salas Rivera—is the first scholarly exhibition focused on Puerto Rican art to be organized by a large U.S. museum in nearly half a century.
Centering on works made by nearly twenty multigenerational artists from Puerto Rico and the diaspora, this volume responds to numerous contemporary issues affecting Puerto Rico, including Hurricane Maria and its devastation, as well as austerity measures, political unrest, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Included are works across mediums, including painting, video, installation art, performance, and poetry, made between 2017 and 2022. no existe un mundo poshuracán demonstrates ways that these artists have forged a path through adversity, searching for a collective awakening grounded in resistance that disrupts the infrastructure of the colonial design.

Gringo Death Coloring Book is a collaborative artist book made in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria’s devastating impact on Puerto Rico. The text by Roque Raquel Salas Rivera, excerpted from his full-length book while they sleep (under the bed Is another Country) [Birds, LLC, 2019] is dialogic fragments interspersed with prose poems reflecting on the lasting impact of colonial trauma, arranged around the two different discourses. Hand-carved linoleum images made and printed by Mariana Ramos Ortiz. Book designed and bound, and text letterpress printed by Erica Mena.
